Happy New Year for 2016!

summer’s colours

bending light

finding beauty

taking flight

in a sunset

As the sun sets on another amazing year, I can't help but look back over the year and reflect on where I have journeyed. Sometimes in life we make mistakes. We say things we wish we hadn't and do things we don't feel proud of. Every day is a new opportunity to grow and move forward. Just as the sun sets on another year, I realise that there is only now; nothing else matters. We can't change the past or live in the future.

On this, the eve of a sparkling new year, I hope 2016 brings you everything your heart truly desires and much, much more. Shine brightly!

Green Tip #9 : Honey & Lemon

Drink warm water mixed with honey and lemon juice. It will bring you in shape and clear your body and skin.

The medicinal value of the lemon is well-known: It is an antiseptic, or is an agent that prevents sepsis [the presence of pathogenic bacteria] or putrefaction [decomposition of tissue]. It is also anti-scorbutic, a term meaning a remedy which will prevent disease and assist in cleansing the system of impurities.

Due to the digestive qualities of lemon juice, symptoms of indigestion such as heartburn, bloating and belching are relieved. By drinking lemon juice regularly, the bowels are aided in eliminating waste more efficiently thus controlling constipation and diarrhea.

Green Tip #8 - Protect your hands

Look at anyone’s hands and you can usually gauge their true age. So why is it that while you can have some success in holding back the years on your face when it comes to hands it is a much harder task?
‘The skin ages faster on the hands because they are exposed daily to chemicals, smoke and, most importantly, UV radiation,’ explains Nina Goad from the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD).

For women, the changes are exacerbated by the fact that levels of oestrogen, the hormone that stimulates collagen production, so helping to keep skin on hands plump and fleshy, start to drop around the time of the menopause.

Develop a good routine and give your hands a helping hand. Good moisturisers can help prevent or treat dry skin on your hands. They hold that needed water in the outer layer of skin, making your hands smoother and softer. They also help your outer skin act as a temporary protective shield.

Always wear garden gloves to protect your nails and hands. I know nothing quite beats the feel of freshly turned earth between your fingers, but wearing gloves out in the garden really makes a lot of sense. Not only can they protect your lovingly-tended nails, but can also prevent unsightly scratches, sore blisters and, as an added bonus, protect your hands from the rays of the sun.
